Atholl Highlanders Tour America

During a tour of America with the Atholl Highlanders, Lance Corporeal Alasdair Meek, a proud Member of Lodge Forfar and Kincardine No. 225, had the Honour of being presented with a Maul at North Quabbin Lodge in Athol, Massachusetts. The Maul was given to him by Brother Niles Larson, District Grand Master of Athol, Massachusetts, who was joined by Brother William Kessler, who is also a District Officer.

The Maul is of considerable historical value and significance. Originally having been gifted to the Lodge in 1904 by The Marques of Tullibardine, Brother John Stewart-Murray who later became The 8th Duke of Atholl, and Grand Master Mason of The Grand Lodge of Scotland.

This memorable occasion not only served as a highlight of the visit, but also as a reaffirmation of the bonds that unite Scottish and American Freemasons. Furthermore, it highlighted the connection between Freemasonry and the Atholl Highlanders, being the only remaining private army in Europe.

Brother Meek presented the Maul to the current Grand Master Mason, Brother W. Ramsay McGhee, in the Grand Committee Room of Freemasons’ Hall in front of a picture of the 8th Duke of Atholl, Brother John Stewart-Murray. The Grand Secretary and The Provincial Grand Master of Forfarshire were also present.

The Maul will be added to the archive of The Grand Lodge of Scotland.
